“Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success” – Henry Ford
Sarah Hollington, Interactive Health Account Manager for Nicklaus Children’s Health System is always up for a challenge. When this client presented her with the lofty goal of achieving 90% employee participation in the annual health evaluation, she said “Ok, let’s do this!”

Nicklaus Children’s Health System has partnered with Interactive Health for over 5 years to create the Healthy Lifestyles Program, a wellbeing offering that improves employee health and lowers the cost of care for employees. Over the years, they have continued to grow and enhance the program.
As a Healthiest Companies in America awardee– Nicklaus Children’s is part of an elite group of Interactive Health clients who demonstrate that investing in and improving the health of their employees works. One of the award requirements is to reach or exceed 70% participation rate in their annual health evaluation.
Over the past 3 years, they have exceeded the 70% participation requirement by over 10%. Moving into 2018, they wanted to continue to strive to engage more employees knowing that greater participation will lead to greater identification of risk for their employee population.
As we planned for the 2018 health evaluations, Nicklaus Children’s challenged Interactive Health to help them reach 90% employee participation. Together, we customized and implemented an integrated strategy to get the job done. First, we changed the actual dates of the health evaluation from September to August. We wanted to avoid hurricane season because it negatively affected participation in 2017.
Next, Nicklaus Children’s mailed all eligible participants a Healthy Lifestyles Program booklet to provide information on the wellness program. Then, Interactive Health and Nicklaus Children’s used email and text on multiple occasions to announce the health evaluations and remind employees to sign up.
Everyone pitched in to help. Nicklaus Children’s department heads received weekly preliminary sign-up and missing appointment reports, so they could encourage their employees to register. Interactive Health member services stepped in to call 2017 health evaluation participants who had not yet signed up in 2018.
After the health evaluations were underway, we extended the deadline by two weeks for those testing at a lab and added a make-up date at the main location to maximize the opportunity to participate.
Collaboration and a strategic approach paid off. I’m happy to report that Nicklaus Children’s had 90.7% of the eligible employee population participate in 2018. More employees learned about their health risk; in fact, 36% of all 2018 participants were identified with newly discovered conditions. Repeat participants are also benefiting; over 82% of those who participated in 2017 and 2018 met their personal health goal.
