Leslie shares how she helps our Client

The vision for the wellness program at its inception was to provide wellbeing offerings to all employees nationwide but this client knew they needed to walk before they ran. They made a strategic decision to first implement the wellness program at locations with the highest insurance claim costs. Based on this criterion, wellness programming was implemented in 3 locations across the country beginning in 2014.

The wellness program expanded over time and now provides wellbeing offerings to employees in 7 locations and remote staff across the US. In 2015, I was given the unique opportunity to work onsite with 800+ employees at their largest manufacturing location. Additionally, I promote wellness with and through wellness ambassadors to all other employees across the nation.

We learned early on that one size does not fit all when it comes to providing wellbeing services nationwide. What motivates employees in the west or northeast is not the same in the south and this clients’ wellness program accommodates the employee’s unique needs and motivators in various locations.

The wellness program celebrates keeping it local and promotes participation in activities and volunteerism in the local community. Incentives to motivate participation also varies by location based on the culture and environment.

At the large manufacturing location, the health screenings give employees who aren’t in the habit of seeing a physician on a regular basis the opportunity to check their health in a convenient way. The health coaching and local activities are well received and serve as a motivator to improve health.

These employees want to have fun, healthy relationships at work and the wellness program sponsored Recreation Relays supports this family like culture. Employees and family members form teams and compete in fun activities such as Wacky Waiter, Walking Ski’s, Hoop & Stick and Farmer’s Carry. The event promotes physical activity but more importantly increases morale and cultivates relationships.

The employees in the northeast have an entirely different set of interests and wellness needs. This population is focused on work-life balance and emotional wellbeing. Interactive Health helps meet these employees where they are by providing live meditation classes where the lights are dimmed, and an aroma therapy humidifier sets the stage for relaxation. Members can also call a number and participate in meditation right from their desk, the train, or anywhere in the country – quite literally meeting employees where they are.

The commitment to wellness is paying off.  Individuals, once at high or moderate risk for chronic health conditions are getting healthier and the culture of wellness is being spread across the organization.  In 2019, we will continue to innovate and evolve the program to improve employee health and the company’s bottom line.
