When Allen, a worker at Amcor Rigid Plastics, learned more about how physical activity could be used as a form of preventive health, he worked to create environments in which him and his wife could participate in physical activities that they’d each enjoy. Allen installed a workout room in their spare bedroom and planted a garden in his backyard that he and his wife used to supplement their paleo diet. Thanks to these new healthy habits, Allen has lost forty pounds, gained muscle, and gotten his blood sugar under control.
After my health evaluation, I realized I needed to take control of my health rather than take a pill for my health. My wife and I decided to make some big changes to our daily lifestyles that would help us stay healthy long-term.
At the beginning of the year, we started the Paleo diet. To help increase our physical activity, I purchased an elliptical and dug the treadmill out of hiding. Then we converted a spare bedroom to an exercise room.
My wife uses the gym equipment more than I do. I prefer a chainsaw or shovel for my physical activity! I planted a large garden and use organic gardening practices to care for it. I’m also raising free-range chickens for meat and eggs with a high Omega-3 content. I started a rabbitry for another healthy source of protein as well.
I have lost forty pounds and have dropped two sizes in my waist. As a result of the increased activity I have started gaining inches in my arms and thighs. My blood sugar is under control and I feel better than I have felt in years and I no longer take antacid pills on a daily basis. I don’t consider it a diet, but rather see it as a lifestyle change.
My wife and I are healthier, happier and more physically fit thanks to our new lifestyle!
