When Jane’s husband passed away her family fell out of its routine, especially when it came to food. They would skip meals and eat unhealthy snacks when they were hungry. At her health evaluation, Jane talked to a health coach about her struggle. The coach suggested a number of action points Sharon and her family could take to get back on track to a healthy, happy life. Sharon left her evaluation feeling affirmative about her next steps and with a new rejuvenated attitude towards food.

How Jane Was Inspired to Get Her Healthy Eating Back on Track

After my husband passed away, my whole family struggled to get back to our regular routine. We were all so consumed by grief, we didn’t think much about when we ate or what we ate. I’d regularly forget to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner. None of us was up to shop or prepare meals. Every once in awhile I made a modest effort during the day to grab something from the vending machine, but it was never a healthy choice.

At my company’s health screening event, I had the chance to sit down with a coach. She was so kind and took extra time to make sure all my questions were answered. I talked to her about how I was feeling, what my family was going through, and how I felt like our habits were getting a little out of our control.

Through my conversation with the coach, I found out that eating healthy was the one thing we MUST do, in my husband’s name. I felt so energized by our conversation. The coach was happy to help me outline what 2 or 3 sensible meals might look like. I told her about our preferences and some of the barriers that have gotten in the way of my good eating habits. She even gave me some good tips on preparing a healthy shopping list, and ideas for nutritious snacks and relaxing techniques to help replace unhealthy binging.

After our meeting I felt like a weight was off my shoulders. The coach helped me talk through my struggle and discover solutions to help take care of me and my family. I went home that day with a new commitment to our health and happiness.
