Interactive Health Vice President of Health Services Jane Ruppert is quoted in an Employee Benefit News article about how health coaching and technology are being used to improve employee emotional health.

“Depression has a staggering impact on business productivity and healthcare spend,” says Jane Ruppert, vice president of health services at Interactive Health, an Illinois-based health management provider.

Emotional health issues are a barrier for employees to address their physical health as well, she says, which can lead to heightened medical spending.

This continues the conversation Dr. Colleen Fairbanks, Interactive Health behavioral coordinator, started earlier this year about mental health costs for businesses and employee presenteeism.

“Loss in productivity doesn’t necessarily mean the employee misses work, in fact some people think of mental illness as something severe where the individual just can’t go to work. So while the employee still goes to work, they muddle through their day often feeling pretty terrible.”
